How Astravelo Cut Manual Work by ~75% With Magento 2, Horizon ERP and Real-Time Inventory
Astravelo was not an established eCommerce business looking for a redesign. The project objective was to build scalable eCommerce infrastructure for a new cycling brand; support 4 countries from a centralized Magento environment; handle 50,000+ SKUs; connect eCommerce with Horizon ERP and physical inventory; reduce manual operational work; improve catalogue organization and product discovery; and create infrastructure capable of supporting long-term retail growth.
- ~75% reduction in manual work
- 4-country Magento 2 infrastructure
- 50,000+ SKUs with real-time inventory synchronization

The Challenge
The Starting Point
Astravelo was not an established eCommerce business looking for a redesign. It was a completely new cycling retail brand being launched alongside the owners’ existing VeloProfs business. Both the physical Astravelo retail operation and eCommerce channel were being created from the ground up.
What the Client Believed Was Wrong
The challenge was to build the technology infrastructure required for a serious multi-market cycling retail operation, not simply launch a basic online store. Astravelo needed Magento to support multiple countries, a very large product catalogue, physical and online inventory, ERP integration, product discovery and future growth.
What Had Already Been Tried
Astravelo itself did not have an existing eCommerce platform. The owners already operated in cycling retail through VeloProfs, giving them industry experience and a clear understanding of the type of platform they wanted. They had already selected Magento before approaching WD Market.
Why It Needed Attention
Astravelo was being launched as a new retail concept, so eCommerce infrastructure was required from day one. The owners already had cycling-industry experience through VeloProfs and approached WD Market with a clear requirement to build the new operation on Magento.
Risk of Doing Nothing
Because Astravelo was a new operation, failing to establish the correct architecture from the beginning would have meant building the business around fragmented country stores, disconnected inventory and increasingly manual processes. As catalogue and transaction volume grew, this would have created substantial operational inefficiency and scalability problems.
Constraints That Shaped the Solution
High technical complexity. The environment combines 50,000+ SKUs, four country storefronts, multiple localized customer experiences, Magento 2, Horizon ERP, physical retail inventory, advanced catalogue functionality and real-time synchronization. Stability and performance are therefore business-critical.
What Success Needed to Mean
Creating eCommerce infrastructure capable of supporting the new Astravelo operation at scale: multiple countries, a large catalogue, reliable inventory information, efficient internal operations and practical customer product discovery. The platform needed to function as business infrastructure rather than simply a customer-facing website.
Our Approach
-
What the Evidence Showed
The project demonstrated that the central challenge was infrastructure scalability and operational efficiency, not merely visual eCommerce design. Astravelo needed to solve multi-market fragmentation, disconnected inventory, catalogue complexity, manual processes and product discovery simultaneously.
-
What We Prioritized First
Scalable technical architecture. Before optimizing individual eCommerce elements, Astravelo needed infrastructure capable of supporting multiple markets, tens of thousands of SKUs and synchronized physical/online inventory. Multi-store architecture, catalogue structure and ERP connectivity were therefore foundational priorities.
-
How We Delivered It
WD Market built a Magento 2 Multi-Store architecture supporting localized country storefronts, custom UX/UI, advanced catalogue architecture, filtering and search. Magento was integrated with Horizon ERP, connecting products, inventory and operational/order processes. Performance optimization was implemented to support the combination of a large catalogue, multiple storefronts and ERP synchronization.
-
How the Engagement Evolved
The initial Magento implementation evolved into a long-term technology relationship. After launch, WD Market continued working on Magento development, bugs, updates, performance, stability, Horizon-related work, integrations and custom improvements. The accumulated complexity and importance of the infrastructure turned Astravelo into a VIP / Key Account.
The People Behind The Work
Magento architects/developers, backend and frontend developers, UX/UI, ERP/integration development, QA/testing, project management and ongoing technical support.
Strategic Decisions
-
Recommendation
As Magento was already Astravelo’s preferred platform, WD Market focused its recommendations on designing an architecture aligned with the company’s operational requirements, ensuring the solution could support its business processes and technical needs.
-
What We Deliberately Did Not Recommend
The project required a tailored eCommerce solution rather than a standard single-country implementation. Based on Astravelo’s operational needs, WD Market recommended a multi-store architecture, ERP integration and custom catalogue infrastructure. Future initiatives involving CRO, SEO, ERP replacement or automation should similarly be guided by a thorough assessment of business requirements, clearly defined objectives and measurable commercial value.
-
Rebuild / Redesign / Spend Decision
As a new eCommerce development project, the focus was on building a Magento solution aligned with the client’s operational requirements.
Results We Delivered
-
Measured Results
~75% reduction in manual work after introducing the new infrastructure and automation. The platform supports 4 countries and a catalogue of 50,000+ SKUs, while real-time inventory synchronization connects eCommerce with the operational/physical inventory environment.
-
Evidence and Metrics
50,000+ SKUs, 4 countries, ~75% reduction in manual work, and real-time inventory synchronization are the strongest documented project metrics.
-
What the Client Gained Beyond the Metric
Astravelo gained an integrated retail technology environment connecting physical retail + online retail + Magento + Horizon ERP + inventory + product catalogue + multiple countries. This created a scalable operational foundation rather than a standalone eCommerce storefront.
- ~75% Less manual work After the new infrastructure and automation.
- 50,000+ SKUs Large catalogue architecture.
- 4 Countries Localized storefronts with real-time inventory sync.
